At First United Methodist Church, we welcome you to our worship service Sunday mornings at 9 a.m. You are not on your own, as you will be welcomed by our members at the door and handed a bulletin which will help you follow along. You also may get a second hymnal (our other hymnals are under the seats, with bookmarks so you can mark the hymns and readings ahead of time). We don’t have assigned seats, so feel free to sit anywhere. You will be welcome!
Our service usually starts with a welcome and announcements followed by music. (We love our music!) Then we have our call to worship, which is a responsive reading (the leader talks, then the people, and so on). We then have an opening prayer, followed by questions from the pews on some Sundays. This is where Pastor Mike answers questions that people have given him about the church and being a Christian.
After sharing our celebrations and concerns, we have another prayer and the Lord’s Prayer. If you don’t know it, don’t stress because we have the words printed in our hymnals. We have our children’s message for children of all ages. Often times, you won’t see just little little kids come forward for this message – you’ll see middle school and high school students too!
After we pass the offering plate, we sing again! We really like to sing! We then hear a selection of verses from the Bible, which leads into the sermon.
Before we depart, we sing another song. But wait … don’t go home just yet. Come for the message, stay for the fellowship complete with coffee, donut holes, and lots of laughter.
We can’t wait to meet you! Come and see why First United Methodist Church in Denison can be your new village of faith.
